Under Eyjafjallajökull

As the volcanic eruption in Iceland shuts down air traffic in northern and western Europe, I recall my visit last summer to a valley along the sea on the south coast of Iceland...just below the swirling mist that clung to the glacier... that sits atop the volcano itself.

The water of a small pool in the valley  at Seljavallalaug was heated naturally by the geothermal activity - the hot water dripped down a lush rock face into the basin as we swam in it, a reminder of the volcanism just under the surface.
