I find the debate over Cheney's group's ads in "conservative" legal circles quite intriguing.
I think the criticism of lawyers who represented detainees goes too far in its bombast by strongly implying a lack of patriotism. And that's coming from a person who thinks military tribunals are likely a better route to take with Guantanamo detainees.
But I don't think the concern over a possible conflict of interest should be out of bounds - it's a potential matter of legal ethics, really. The ad, for all its over-the-top framing, actually does raise that legitimate issue effectively.
