The police on scene told another inquiring observer that it was "nothing major" and that "nobody has been hurt."
But clearly something was up in Alphabet City tonight. I arrived home to see and feel a helicopter circling around my immediate neighborhood and literally hovering over my apartment building for stretches of time. Here's a shot out of our kitchen window:
All told, at least 6 police cars, a police swat-type vehicle, and two police vans jammed the corner of Avenue C down onto the actual scene of the incident (roped off with yellow tape) on Second Street between C and B in front of Peachtree Garden.
A sizable force of officers was on hand, as well as a number of individuals in suits, who I presume were administrators or detectives.
